"Meeting the Challenges of Difficult Clients with Success"
Presenter: Patti Rock
Recorded: January 27, 2012

We’ve all had them; those “PITA” clients who say one thing and then demand another; who want more edits, or who just are hard to deal with. We often don’t realize we are getting involved until after the contract is signed or we are well into the resume writing process.

More often than not, these clients are suffering from some type of loss, or “grief” in their lives. We are not here to be their counselors, but understanding the stages and types of grief and utilizing some tips to gain cooperation will help us get the job done more quickly and less painfully.  In this presentation you will learn the following:

  • The two types of grief and how grief affects the resume writing process
  • The stages of grief and typical reactions
  • How to use your resume worksheet to identify potential problematic areas
  • Tips for keeping clients on focus
  • When not to take a client
  • How to turn a negative experience into a positive one

Patti Rock, CPRW, CEIC, Executive Resume Writer, Career Strategist, Executive Recruiter and owner of Hoff Resumes & Career Counseling Services has extensive experience in the Human Resource Field. She has been a presenter and trainer for over 20 years. Patti specializes in working with those experiencing losses in employment or the threat of layoffs with custom-fit solutions to lessen those loss impacts, identify needs and turn those needs into strengths to heighten employability. She utilizes her years of experience in grief counseling to assist clients in identifying issues related to loss and helps them focus on strategies designed specifically for their needs to produce focused resumes and identify strengths to prepare them for the job seeking process. Patti serves on the Ethics Committee of the National Resume Writers’ Association and has presented to other members of the association in her region on grief and how loss affects resume writers in their effort to deal with difficult clients. Patti is the recipient of the American Bar Association Liberty Bell Award and twice recipient of the Governor’s Award for Advocacy.
