The Certification Exam

Once you have submitted at least one sample and documented 10 CEs, you may register for the two-part examination.  Additional forms will be included in the confirmation email.

Part 1: Proofreading Exam

The first part is an hour-long timed proofreading exam. You are provided with a resume that is full of errors and asked to identify 25 specific mistakes (i.e. punctuation, redundancy, telegraphic writing) within the hour. This portion of the exam is graded within 1-2 days.

If you fail Part 1 of the exam, you must wait 30 days to retake it ($50.00 fee).

Part 2: Resume and Cover Letter Writing Exam

For the second part, you will be given a candidate profile and asked to write a resume and cover letter based on the raw profile provided. You will have three business days to complete the project, which is handled via email. Your documents will be reviewed by two graders.

If you fail Part 2 of the exam, you must wait 30 days to retake it ($150.00 fee).
