Paul's been a career development professional since the early 2000s, having earned his CPRW designation in 2003 and his Reach CPBS (Certified Personal Branding Strategist) and 360Reach Analyst designations in 2008. He loves helping his clients run the career marketing gauntlet and believes that developing and executing a full-spectrum career marketing plan is more important now than ever. Besides creating door-opening career marketing documents (primarily résumés), Paul enjoys advising his peers on document development, client relationships, and practice management.
Paul holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree (Marketing option) from UBC's Sauder School of Business, and post-graduation he studied UBC English courses such as Canadian Literature, Technical Writing, and Advanced Composition. Furthermore, he holds a Certificate in Mountain Skills and Outdoor Leadership from the Yamnuska Mountaineering School.
After graduating from UBC, Paul worked for several years in Information Technology - first for IBM Canada (as a Programmer/Analyst) and later for Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting, as a Senior Systems Integration Consultant). He's also been Lead Technical Writer for TELOS Engineering (a Vancouver, BC-based cellular network integrator) and in 2000 he founded TARGET Career Services (which he rebranded in 2015 as NOVA Career Strategies).
As one of two Directors of Industry for New Business Owners, Paul ensures that new NRWA members feel right at home within the Association and are well-informed about its great breadth and depth of resources for networking, educational advancement, and business management: conferences, certification courses, webinars, publications, tools, and so on. He also assists the Marketing Chair with various digital and traditional marketing activities, helps maintain the NRWA website content, and assists with other NRWA activities as required.
