How I work with clients
I teach business communication at the university level. My clients are students who are writing resumes for internships and entry level jobs. Resume writing is extremely difficult for students, even when taught methodically. I am always available to students who want personalized help. When a student seeks help, I first skim his/her resume. I then ask the student to select entries on the resume of which he/she is most proud and then to talk to me about each of those entries. Listening to the student is critical because details and passions that weren’t visible in the resume suddenly materialize and paint a very clear picture of the client. It’s critical that a resume accurately represents not only a client’s experience, but also showcases his/her personality, passions, and aspirations.
