Stay tuned for our new Writing Excellence Foundations Training!

Coming This Spring - 2023!

Foundations are essential in any profession! Whether you are new to resume writing or want to deepen your knowledge about the craft, this training is for you.

New and experienced career services professionals who have limited formal training in writing resumes and cover letters will benefit from these training modules, dozens of supplemental worksheets and resources, and multiple samples of traditional and modern resume and cover letters.

This four-module training will be offered “on-demand” via a dynamic online course platform, enabling you to complete coursework whenever it best suits your schedule. Using a “real client” case study, the modules will take you through information gathering, planning the document strategy, developing the content, and formatting a final product that aligns with industry standards and best practices.

Upon completion of the four core modules, you can register for one or both targeted modules that are specifically designed to assist career services professionals who work in school/college settings or workforce development centers.

What Can I Expect from Writing Excellence Foundations Training

  • Approximately four (4) hours of instruction across four (4) core modules, with an additional one (1) hour of instruction for each targeted module.
  • PowerPoint slide decks, dozens of worksheets, writing samples, and supplemental resources to accompany each module, plus automated quizzes to assess your understanding.

  • A 30-minute one-on-one mentoring call with the instructor following completion of the core modules (with an additional 15-minute call for each of the targeted modules).

  • Certificate of completion and  eight (8) CEUs for completing the four (4) core modules (plus 1 CEU for each targeted module).

CORE MODULES TRAINING OUTLINE

Completion of all four core modules will equip writers with the knowledge and tools needed to craft modern resumes and cover letters that adhere to all the principles and best practices of effective marketing, document strategy, writing quality, and formatting.

Module 1: Modern Resume & Cover Letter Principles, the Discovery Process, and Planning Document Strategy

Module 2: Essential Resume Content: Summaries, Experience, and Accomplishments

Module 3: Additional Resume Sections, Cover Letters, and e-Notes

Module 4: Writing Quality and Document Formatting

ADD-ON MODULES

Upon completion of the Foundations training, professionals who work in specialized fields may purchase one or both additional modules, depending on their specific needs:

College Career Center Module

This module is designed for college career center staff who do not actually write resumes and cover letters, but instead assist students by teaching resume/cover letter classes, providing guidance to students, and/or critiquing student documents. Business owners who work with students and new grads will also benefit from some additional training and resources on how to assist this unique demographic.

Instruction will address challenges and  opportunities in working with the student and new graduate population. Through the use of case studies, worksheets, and supplemental resources, you will learn how to develop modern resumes and cover letters that illustrate relevant skills and experiences, reveal a student’s and new grad’s unique offerings, and position them to reach their target goals.

Workforce Development Center Module

This module is designed for staff of workforce development centers, employment services offices, vocational rehabilitation centers, outplacement firms, and other organizations that assist job seekers with their career transitions. Typically, they may not write résumés and cover letters, but instead assist clients by teaching resume/cover letter classes, providing guidance on how to write a resume/cover letter, and/or critiquing client documents. Business owners who work directly with this demographic will also benefit from additional training and resources.
