Why Choose the NRWA’s Writing Excellence Foundations Training?

Foundations are essential in any profession! Whether you are new to resume writing or would like to know more about the craft, this training is for you.

New and experienced career services professionals who have limited formal training in writing résumés and cover letters will benefit from these training modules, dozens of supplemental worksheets and resources, and multiple traditional and modern résumé and cover letter samples.

This four-part training will be offered November 1-22, 2022 as a live pilot program with attendees invited to a Q&A following each session. Subsequently, recordings will be offered on-demand and include a 30-minute one-on-one conversation with the instructor.

Additionally, add-on modules will be available for those who work in college career centers or workforce development centers. These modules are designed specifically to assist career services professionals who work with these unique demographics. Following each module, attendees are offered a 15-minute consult with the instructor.

What Can I Expect from Writing Excellence Foundations Training

  • Six hours of instruction covering four core modules, with an additional 90 minutes of instruction for each add-on module.
  • Four PowerPoint slide decks, dozens of worksheets, writing samples, and supplemental resources, plus quizzes to assess your understanding.
  • Live discussion and Q&A during the pilot program (one-on-one mentoring calls with the instructor following completion of the on-demand program).

ADD-ON MODULES

Following completion of the Foundations training, professionals who work in specialized fields have the option of purchasing one or both additional modules designed specifically to assist them in working with their unique demographic.

College Career Center Module (90 minutes)

This module is designed for college career center staff who do not actually write the résumés and cover letters, but instead assist students by teaching résumé/cover letter classes, providing guidance to students, and/or critiquing student documents. Business owners who work with students and new grads will also benefit from some additional training and resources on how to assist this unique demographic.

Instruction will address challenges and opportunities in working with the student and new grad population. Through the use of case studies, worksheets, and supplemental resources, participants will learn how to develop modern resumes and cover letters that illustrate relevant skills and experiences, reveal a student’s and new grad’s unique offerings, and position them to reach their target goals.

Workforce Development Center Module (90 minutes)

This module is designed for staff of workforce development centers, employment services offices, vocational rehabilitation centers, outplacement firms, and other organizations that assist job seekers with their career transitions. Typically, they may not write the resume and cover letters, but instead assist clients by teaching resume/cover letter classes, providing guidance on how to write a resume/cover letter, and/or critiquing client documents. Business owners who work directly with this demographic will also benefit from additional training and resources.

Instruction will address the challenges and opportunities in working with professionals who may be experiencing recent job loss or who are making a career change. Through the use of case studies, worksheets, and supplemental resources, participants will learn how to develop modern resumes and cover letters that illustrate relevant skills and experiences, minimize potential barriers/biases, and position clients to reach their target goals.
