International Assignments: Landing and Thriving in the Global Workplace
Presented by: Myriam-Rose Kohn, CPRW, CPBS, CMD
When working with international clients, there are certain guidelines to keep in mind. Many U.S. based clients think that if they work in another English-speaking country, it should not be that hard. They fail to take climate and culture into account though. We will talk about 15 points of what it takes to succeed abroad, what organization employ workers abroad, and how to find international jobs. We will also talk about the mistakes to avoid (cannot be emphasized enough). What is open to negotiation in a contract will be covered as well as the elements of a compensation package (before departure, during the assignment, and after completion of the assignment). Acculturation is crucial, even if you work in an English-speaking country, as well as etiquette. The Ten Commandments of traveling will be discussed as well as what to do once you are back home because your client will never be the same again. This is an ideal session for those résumé writers who want to either learn something new or want to add another profit center to their business.
In this session, you will learn:
- Why go global and what it requires, including examples of what and not to do in certain countries.
- What it takes to succeed abroad.
- What to do before, during, and after an international assignment.
This 90-minute recording from the 2020 Virtual Conference is $19.99 for NRWA members and $39.99 for nonmembers. It is not eligible for CEUs.
